Maryellen Rouse Neifert, 2001

When my mom died in 2002, the family decided we would each contribute yearly to a living memorial in her honor. We chose St. Francis de Sales Grammar School in Philadelphia, PA where my mom learned her strong beliefs, which she carried throughout her life.

The Maryellen Rouse Neifert Memorial fund has provided many educational activities and wonderful experiences to the children.

My mom’s life and career path brought her in contact with people in need. The way she helped friends as well as strangers is truly remarkable as she dedicated herself to bettering the lives of the less fortunate. Her work touched many along the way in Pennsylvania, Vermont and Iowa.

It is the goal of St. Francis de Sales is to instill our student body with an enthusiasm for learning that will continue to grow with them. St. Francis is laying the groundwork for students to envision a future for themselves filled with unlimited possibilities by fulfilling certain expectations. Many of today’s St. Francis de Sales students have fled revolutions, guerrillas and wars to come to America to pursue their dreams of peace and freedom. They are the survivors – from Cambodia, Bangladesh, Eritrea, Sierra Leone, and dozens of other nations–and the future of our country. Our future will be bright and bold with the diversity, courage education and tenacity of our children.
